I’ve had the opportunity to photography Melissa, owner of THANK Yoga Studio, a couple of times. All of our shoots have been in yoga pants with no make up and messy hair (proof that is beautiful in her article for Yoga Journal). So when she talked to me about shooting her wedding I was super excited to shoot her in an entirely different light. And I will say, the girl can clean up.
But first, yoga.
Melissa’s friend and yoga teacher Josie led a yoga class for friends and family on the morning of the wedding. This totally set the tone for the day. Movement with purpose, pranayama and mom’s bursting out of the door yelling “omg don’t move!” while they snap a pic. ❤
GETTING READY
Ok old Hollywood…
THE FIRST LOOK
So again, I have only ever photographed Melissa for yoga shoots where her body and posture were the main concerns of the composition. To be honest I was a little nervous about shooting her wedding because I knew it was going to be so different than how we were used to working together. Plus I knew Chad wasn’t a huge fan of having his photo take (can’t tell…I know).
But I think a great point has been made from this experience. When you show up completely for the truest most genuine experiences in your life, it will be seen and felt by others. Of course there was some direction and ‘let’s try this’ moments, but these two were totally into one another every second they had together on this day. I think their love and intention for one another shows in these images that seamlessly went from their first look to the bride + groom photographs.
FAMILY PORTRAITS
THE CEREMONY
THE PARTY
A funny story: Melissa + Chad had four different cakes at their wedding. After cutting all the cakes and arranging them on the table Chad’s mom grabbed a fork and helped herself to a bite of each. It was hilarious and a true testament to the vibe that everyone there was family. Following suit everyone grabbed a fork and took a sampling of the cakes before committing to a slice.
Thank you Chad + Melissa for being yourselves with me the entire day and always.
