This proud mom is one of my closest, longest and dearest friends. I have photographed her long before any babies were in the picture, when she was pregnant with her first, then when Ben arrived and now with Emily on the way. Kaylyn wanted to capture these moments right before her family grew to four and I have to say beyond just the fact that I love what I do, I think it is really important.
Someone recently asked me what do I do to celebrate after accomplishing goal or achieving a dream? How do I show myself compassion, especially when things are uncertain? How do I make a mark when something that has changed my life happens?
There are a lot of answers here but one of my biggest answers is seeking gratitude, finding joy (in the big and small moments) and being mindful.
I think the reason why photography is my bliss is because I am filled with gratitude, joy and mindfulness when I am shooting. I am creating, collaborating and truly connecting with someone who trust in their connection with me enough to let themselves unfold.
And on the other side of that experience is the is the person (or people) who are stopping to take in a moment in their life where they are most grateful, joyful and aware of it.
Whether it is in photography or just a good conversation or a hug that lasts longer than 2 seconds – I believe that is the real magic that brings meaning in our lives.
Thank you to the Ruffing family for being there in that light with me. I love you.
P.S. There are photos in this blog of Kaylyn pregnant with Ben (2015) and Ben as a baby (2016) paired with photographs from our most reason session (2017). Kind of cool seeing how my style has changed too 😉 Like this one…

I told Kaylyn and Mike that they looked like second time parents in this time around. I got the uncertain “Thanks?” reply. I explained that they just look like they know that they don’t know what is going to happen but they are a team and they’ve got each other’s back. ❤

One of my favs!
Now and always.
Not to go on another deep rant, but I am always amazed by the incredible, strong, beautiful women that I get to work with and know.
Now, a bunch of combos from 2015 (Ben in the belly), 2016 (Ben as a babe), 2017 (Family of 3.5).
Ben, left + Emily, right
All Ben!
Ben, top + Emily, bottom.
Oh and some proof that visualizing works. Ben loves golf.
Love you mama.
